How we work

A clear path from idea to launch.

Building software shouldn’t feel like a gamble. Our process is designed to remove uncertainty at every stage — so you always know what’s being built, why, and what comes next.

  1. 01

    Discover

We start by understanding your business, your users and what success looks like. Together we define scope, priorities and risks.

Workshops and conversations with your stakeholders, a look at competitors and existing systems, and a prioritised feature list. You leave this stage knowing what will be built, in what order, and roughly what it will cost.

    You receive

    • Project brief
    • Feature scope
    • Estimate & roadmap
  2. 02

    Design

We turn requirements into user flows, wireframes and a polished interface — tested with a clickable prototype before a line of code is written.

Our designers map the user journeys, structure each screen and then craft the visual design. A clickable prototype lets you — and your users — try the product before development begins.

    You receive

    • Wireframes
    • UI design
    • Clickable prototype
  3. 03

    Build

Our engineers develop in short sprints with regular demos, so you see real progress and can adjust priorities as you go.

Development runs in short sprints. Every sprint ends with a demo of working software, and every change is peer-reviewed and covered by automated tests.

    You receive

    • Working software every sprint
    • Progress updates
  4. 04

    Test

QA runs alongside development, not after it. Manual and automated testing catches issues early, across devices and browsers.

QA engineers join from the first sprint. Automated suites protect critical journeys, while manual testing covers usability, edge cases and real devices.

    You receive

    • Test plans
    • Bug reports
    • Release-ready build
  5. 05

    Launch

We handle deployment, app store submission and go-live monitoring, so launch day is calm rather than chaotic.

We prepare production infrastructure, run a release checklist, submit to app stores where needed and monitor closely after go-live. You receive full documentation and access to everything.

    You receive

    • Production release
    • Documentation
    • Handover
  6. 06

    Evolve

After launch we monitor, maintain and improve your product, keeping it secure, fast and up to date.

Real users bring real feedback. We keep your product secure and stable, and plan improvements with you based on what users actually do.

    You receive

    • Maintenance plan
    • Updates
    • Ongoing support

Communication

You’ll always know where things stand.

Transparency isn’t a feature we add at the end — it’s how we work every week.

A dedicated point of contact

One person who knows your project inside out and keeps everything moving.

Regular demos

Working software at the end of every sprint — not slide decks.

Shared tools

Access to the task board, designs and documentation, so progress is always visible.

Weekly updates

A short written summary: what’s done, what’s next, and any decisions we need from you.

Engagement models

Flexible engagement, clear expectations.

Best for

Well-defined products and MVPs

Fixed-scope project

Agreed scope, timeline and budget. Ideal when you know what you need and want cost certainty.

Best for

Evolving products and long-term roadmaps

Dedicated team

A team of designers, developers and QA engineers working as an extension of yours, with flexible scope.

Best for

Live products

Support & maintenance

Monitoring, updates, bug fixes and improvements on a monthly plan.

Quality standards

Built properly, every time.

The habits that keep our software reliable long after launch.

  • Peer code review on every change
  • Automated tests for critical journeys
  • Continuous integration on every commit
  • Security best practices (OWASP)
  • Accessibility checks in design and QA
  • Documentation and a proper handover

Frequently asked questions

A few quick answers about how HM IT Services works and what to expect.

Still have questions? Ask us directly
  • How long does each stage take?

It depends on the size of the product. Discovery and design typically take a few weeks; development is planned in sprints. You’ll get a timeline with your proposal.

  • Can we skip discovery?

If you already have clear requirements and designs, we can start with a short review instead. For most projects, though, discovery saves time and money later.

  • Can we change priorities during development?

Yes. Working in sprints means we can re-prioritise at each planning session, and we’ll always explain the impact on timeline and budget.

  • Who owns the code?

You do. All source code, designs and intellectual property are transferred to you.
